One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say they don’t like math, they are bad at math, or math doesn’t matter in the real world. If you’ve said or thought any of these things, it means you just haven’t found the way of learning and appreciating math that makes the most sense to YOU. Hopefully, I can make learning math a little (or a lot) less painful for you.
Writing can take on so many shapes and forms. Whether it’s a school paper, a research article, or a full novel manuscript, it’s important to clearly and efficiently get your point across while still making it enjoyable to read. Not to mention, having good grammar. I want to share my years of experience as a writing tutor and continue helping students hone their writing skills.
I graduated from Colby College in 2015 with a degree in mathematics with a concentration in statistics as well as minors in computer science and education. As a college student, I was a TA for college-level statistics courses, and I did my month-long teaching practicum as a middle school math teacher. In high school, I helped other students in my math courses, including AP Calculus B/C, AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Algebra, and Pre-Algebra. Additionally, I’ve been a volunteer tutor since 2019, working with kids in grades 4-7.
As a student at Colby College, I worked as a writing tutor for three years. Colby’s writing program requires tutors to complete a 1-semester course in tutoring methodology and ethics. This position involved 1-1 sessions with college students where we would brainstorm topics, develop outlines, read papers aloud, review for grammar and citations, and revise for clarity. As the Manager of Research Data & Operations at Aberdeen Strategy and Research, I regularly write, review, and edit research content as well as help our analyst team develop their personal writing skills.
Getting to know the students I tutor is the most important part of helping them grow their skills. Weekly 30-60min 1-1 virtual sessions are the most effective way to build a strong tutoring relationship and consistently work on specific knowledge areas.
If you have a big test or paper coming up, I'm happy to set up study sessions with you to guide your learning in a specific topic. We can map out everything you need to be successful and work toward a clear goal through hourly 1-1 sessions.
